Vintage Dunlop badminton racquet
The actual badminton racquet owned by David Choong, All England badminton doubles champion.

A continuation of my recent post…I’m finally ready to go through my dad’s belongings after more than a decade of putting it off. 🏸

My dad was my mentor, my hero, my protector, and my best friend. When he passed away in 2011, I did not once cry.  Not one single tear.

Today (20th october 2026) 15 years later, I’m allowing the tears to flow as I post this drawing of his badminton racquet. They are not tears of sadness, they are tears of relief that I can now finally let go without the fear of losing my memories and connection to him.
Progress. ✌️

I guess I’m now finally relieved because I know his legacy has finally been secured not just in my memory but also in the State museum in Penang.

I was recently invited to the newly reopened Penang state museum by the Director and given a private tour. Unbeknown to me, they had 2 areas which showed my dad’s and my uncle’s legacy. I was really moved and grateful for this acknowledgement and I was taken aback to be honest because the director knew who I was despite me never sharing explicitly about them as I was not ready to talk too much about my family. The timing was right. It’s been 15 years since my dad passed away. I am ready to talk about him and build on his legacy.  I am so grateful to the Penang State museum. For my gratitude I have gifted a lot of items from my dad’s estate to the Museum including his bag of vintage badminton racquets. They will have proper storage and hopefully an area to display to the public and inspire the next generation of kids.
These next few sketches are dedicated to my dad as I reimprint happy memories of our relationship 🩷

To my dad,  I love you and miss you every single day. You will be remembered forever for generations to come.
