Is Penang Hokkien a dying dialect?
Do you speak Hokkien?
When Rosalind, my publisher, asked if i was interested to illustrate the cover of a Penang Hokkien dictionary, I immediately said yes!
As usual Patsy did her magic with my sketches and turned them into a beautiful book cover. I feel so grateful for this opportunity. Thank you. Kam sia 🙏
As a Penangite I am proud of my heritage and I love to speak Hokkien whenever I get a chance. Admittedly my Hokkien is not very good, so this dictionary will be super useful. Fewer people are speaking Penang Hokkien. Experts believe that the dialect will disappear in the next 40 years as the younger generation do not use it anymore, but I do hope there will be a resurgence in its use with projects like this and other initiatives like the Penang Hokkien podcast
It’s such an incredible honour to be part of this wonderful project to help promote and preserve the use of Penang Hokkien.

Thanks for the answer.
I am still puzzled by all the different Chinese languages.
I do love Asian food in general. And I do love Chinese food.
Though I can not speak or understand any form of Chinese lagnuages.
Kind regards,

No Hokkien and Hakka are not the same dialect. Are there many Hakka speakers in Netherlands?
