Despite a rough year physically, injuring my knee and being bedridden for a month and slowly rehabbing myself back to health, 2023 has turned into a really amazing year.
I have my second solo exhibition on display in my hometown of Penang, Malaysia and my first illustrated art book just came out.
Below are some photos of my paintings in this exhibition. I’m a person of few words. I prefer to let my art “speak” for itself. I like to tell people it is not what I paint but how my art makes you feel.

My first illustrated book has been curated by my publisher who went through my 30 sketchbooks from my 10 years of sketching. It’s filled with sketches of everyday objects in Penang. Things you take for granted or never look at properly. I want to make the ordinary special and worthy of second look. Too look at everyday objects with fresh eyes, eyes of a child.

Below is a photo of me and Mr Lee standing at his Ais Kacang family business which celebrates it’s 100 years this year. I remember my parents bringing me to their original stall as a child and the happiness I felt. The ais kacang is a shaved ice dessert which brought me so much joy as a child and it still does today. I have included a sketch of this in my book.
Every single drawing is filled with happy memories and I’m so happy to be able to share this joy to everyone.

Well, well, you have been busy…
I’m a bit green with envy for your editor to have been able to look at all your 30 sketchbooks…
Have you planned a digital edition?
