I started my sketch a day in April 2013 and I decided from the onset that I will not draw people. In the 6 years I have done 5 bearded characters for Movember.
Now with charcoal, I have changed my mind and I have decided to start drawing people and figures because it’s been an area I have conciously stayed clear from. It’s not that I don’t find people interesting to draw but I feel it’s a subject that is really difficult to get right and that scares me.
My intention here, as with all my other sketches is to capture a feeling rather than a realistically perfect representation of the subject which my phone can do better than me. 📱
Sketch of the day no 1214 is of a portrait of man inspired by The exhibition of Don McCullin at the Tate Britain.
What do you think?
Don Mccullin photo exhibition runs until 6 May 2019 at Tate Britain, London.

As long as it keeps you drawing. At least you won’t get bored of the piece if you have a few to work on.

Advancing. working on several drawings at the same time. Seems that the same thing thing as writing is happening. I tend to write several pieces at the same time. I grab a sketch, add a few strokes. Then jump to another with a different challenge, and so forth…

Thanx Brian for the encouragement. How are you doing with yours?

A very powerful drawing. And you’re right: drawing people is the most difficult. (Currently struggling – and always have – with the eyes…)
Good job.
Your trip down to the charcoal mine was a good idea.
Keep shoveling.
