It is ghost month and the Chinese believe that the gates of heaven and hell are open allowing spirits from the other realm to roam free on earth to visit their loved ones. The tradition is to give offerings to our ancestors and other wandering spirits to appease them

Yes. There can be a wide gap between the two. Or sometimes religion “took over” old cultural traditions. Which is the case in Mexico for the Day of the Dead. It really is a “Christianization” of an old Aztec custom. Bonne semaine kawan saya.

Yes it’s a very old tradition. It’s cultural rather than religious which is interesting as well.
