Casper is a stray who was adopted by Kobe, the Rhodesian Ridgeback. My best friend Sally was not much of a cat person. Well, until one day Kobe decided to adopt Casper. Sally had no choice but to take him in. He was only little, maybe a month old. Casper is now 6 months old and thinks he is not only a dog, but the pack leader!

And I totally agree with you that paths without obstacles may lead you nowhere.
In mountain-climbing, the best path sometimes is the hardest. 🙂
