Power cuts were fun in Africa. Generally happened more during the rainy season. So you had a combination of heavy rain and storm above, storm in the sea ten yards away and no light! “Génial” when you’re 8 or 10. Adventure. Go get the torchlights. Light up the kerosene lamps as in a Joseph Conrad adventure. Loved it.
That is generally a symptom of places with frequent power cuts. I was very proud when my father gave me my first torchlight when I was 8 or 9 back in Africa. Batteries never lasted long of course.

I always have a torchlight in my bag in case of emergencies 😆
