
Sketch of the day in my Daler Rowney art journal is of a vintage chartered bank night safe on Beach street Penang.
A relic from the colonial days. It is now the Standard chartered bank. The night safe is no longer in use but still on the wall preserved as part of the heritage of the past.

The Raffles hotel in Singapore and the eastern and oriental hotel in Penang were build by the Sarkies brothers. X

Most probably. It always was (and is) about trade. I imagine you know the Raffles. I don’t. All I have are those adventurous cliché impressions. Heat, ventilators and punkha! 🙂

I think maybe established around the same time as the raffles. It was all about the trading.
