Today’s sketch of the day in my moleskine art journal is the tree that gave Penang island it’s name. The Pinang Palm or Areca nut palm. Areca Catechu.
The seed is commonly known as betel nut seed because it is shaved, wrapped in betel leaf and used for chewing.
The Penang state flag features the Pinang Palm. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Penang

Penang, Pinang and Betel! Wow. So you live at the center of Betel. Extraordinary. Betel is widely used in southeast Asia.
(Learned something new)
