Today’s sketch of the day in my moleskine art journal is a red Tulip with pointed petals. The Tulip is Turkey’s national flower and is indigenous to the country. The flower symbolises perfection and beauty. Considered the king of bulbs, the Ottoman’s were so in love with this flower that it was incorporated into all designs during the tulip period. Iznik designs use a lot of tulips in their decoration.
The tulip was exported to other European countries where they have been grown to have round petals

The ottoman exported the Tulips to them! We both learnt something new 😄

(I also understand that tulips were so valuable in Turkey that export was prohibited, until someone smuggled a few bulbs to Holland)

A very nice rendering of a tulip. 🙂
