Today’s sketch of the day in my moleskine art journal is a red Tulip with pointed petals. The Tulip is Turkey’s national flower and is indigenous to the country. The flower symbolises perfection and beauty. Considered the king of bulbs, the Ottoman’s were so in love with this flower that it was incorporated into all designs during the tulip period. Iznik designs use a lot of tulips in their decoration.
The tulip was exported to other European countries where they have been grown to have round petals

I never knew these existed until this trip. I just thought they Ottoman drew stylized tulips with pointed petals. I have so much to learn!

Beautiful and informative. The post somehow lifted my spirits. Probably because of the finely colored red 🙂
