Sketch of the day in my moleskine art journal is an Ottoman star burst brass door knocker. It is a solid cast brass knocker shaped as a handle with a hammer head at the back, the hollow body with champfered edges, surmounted by a star burst or sun form cresting emitting rays.
I have a bit of an obsession with doors and here in Istanbul, every door is unique and all the Ironmongery are interesting. Some are Ottoman, some could be Greek or Albanian, depending on the owner.
I have been in Istanbul for a month now and there’s still so much to discover.

I like doors too aside from their own esthetics they have a symbolic function: closing or opening the passage between the home and the street. Inside vs outside.

I have drawn doors and door hardware. All thr doors are different. From different cultures and different architectural periods.
