Travelling back in time
Travelling back in time

Another wedding brought me back to India. My first trip was also for a wedding in Bombay and Goa.

This trip I spent a week in Kerala with some friends for the wedding. We flew in from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Cochin, India on a 4 hour direct flight. Kerala is really not like any other Indian state. What struck me immediately was that the people were civilised and the place is uncrowded. Kerala situated in the south western tip of India has a literacy rate of 95%, a life expectancy of 77 years and is the least corrupt state in India. The other outstanding thing I noticed is there is a smoking ban across the city. You don’t see people smoking on the streets and you can’t smoke in restaurants. There are smoking areas set up usually behind buildings, out of view from the public. I discovered that Kerala is a matriarchal society. The women control the finances in the family. Go girl power!!
