I love Nonya ware. It’s a kind of kitsch Chinese overglazed enamel porcelain from the 19th and 20th century. There were commissioned by the straights Chinese settlement in Malaysia, usually decorated in a combination of bright colours like green, pink, light blue and yellow. Since they had to be ordered in, Nonya ware was not for everyday use. They were ordered for special occasions like weddings. The popular motifs were phoenix, cherry blossom, peonies and goldfish to symbolize love, prosperity, wealth and luck.
This particular one is not very valuable. It’s considered quite a sloppy piece. The hand painted motifs are not so refined and in some areas the colour runs into each other. I still like it a lot. I grew up surrounded by Nonya ware so I can spot them from afar.

How intricate! I love the detail work and how the line weight makes it look like it actually is printed onto the plate instead of being a conflicting element.
