Finally the weather cleared and I decided to pop down to the affordable art fair in Hamstead. It’s only a half hour walk from my house so i needed good weather to drag myself outside. I got there around 330pm. Bought the ticket which was GBP 12 for a weekday entry. (it’s GBP 11.50 online so not much savings there) I visited the art fair last year as well so it was nice to see what the galleries were going to present this year.

The place was fairly packed when i arrived. What I noticed straight away was a trend for animals. There were a lot of dog and bird paintings and silk screen prints. I’m not sure if this is a trend or deliberate considering there were a lot of animal lovers at the fair. Many of them brought their dogs along. I was also delighted most of the art work was not of the conceptual variety. They were mainly decorative and aesthetically pretty. Paintings you could buy straight away and hang in your dining or living room without causing a stir.

Apart from art work, there were 2 workshop areas. One for printing and another one for painting. In the middle area was a wine bar, at the corner was a pastry section. The organisers know well that a happy art collector is one who is slightly tipsy and definitely not hungry!
